Margate Store & Studio
Opening our Margate store and studio in 2021 marked a new beginning for Les Animaux. It allowed us to interact directly with our customers and serve their needs with timeless products, made entirely by us in a low-impact, cruelty-free environment. We believe in total transparency in our production — quite literally, with an open-curtain policy between the shop and the studio. It’s here in Margate that we design, make, and hand-dye our collection.
Now more than ever, we believe our stores should be safe spaces — places where people can come, feel welcome, and know they are included.
You can find us at 1 Lombard St, Margate CT9 1EJ
We are open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm
Our Studio
By having our studio based in store we are able to be totally transparent in our production (we literally have an open curtain policy between the shop and the studio)
80% of our collections made by ourselves in our Margate studio supported by talented local makers with additional manufacturing support for higher volume items from a small family run factory in the Midlands which are then hand finished and hand dyed by us in our studio. When we make to order the cutting, construction and finishing is all done by hand in our Margate studio.
Having our studio in-house allows us to be able to cater specifically to customers when they do not fit our standard sizes, no one should ever enter a shop and feel that there is nothing there to fit them or that they will be demeaned for not fulfilling an ideal stereotype. Any of our team will be able to help you in our stores if you have any queries about the fit.
Workshops
We run Workshops in our store covering a variety of skills. It's a great way to share ideas and meet new people. We passionately believe that clothes retain their value and beauty for years so long as they are carefully maintained and we have learnt and developed many tricks to repair and re invent garments that may show signs of wear. We wanted to share some of these almost forgotten skills and with anyone who was interested in learning them to use on their own clothes.
In addition we have adopted a zero waste approach to the materials we use and we are always looking for inventive ways to re use scraps such as for patchworks that can be used in garments and home furnishing, also toys and novelties which was the inspiration behind our patchwork and toy making classes to utilise scraps and discarded items to reinvent and create objects to treasure for the future. See our courses below and read more about our workshops in Margate here.
